Photographer Evhen Stepanets

Evhen Stepanets is a photographer and documentarian. He was born in 1989 in Luhansk. Evhen graduated from the East Ukrainian Volodymyr Dahl National University. In the summer of 2014 he moved to Kyiv, where he now lives and works. "The pictures shot by me are modern and reflect the reality of the environment just as much as a person is immersed in their own world of experience observing his works. He thinks about freedom, living conditions for people today, and does not deprive the viewer of the opportunity to think about their own continuation for their visual narratives," states a text about Evhen’s work in an edition of IZIN. He took part in exhibitions of the Vilnius Photo Circle (Lithuania), Nightcontact at Brighton Photo Bienniale (UK), Eastreet 2 (Poland), Photonic Moments (Slovenia), Perm Photo Biennale 2013 (Russia). One of his series of works after moving to Kyiv is dedicated to his friends who are IDPs from Luhansk. "I was shooting for a year about what has changed in our life. What are our dreams today about? Have they changed? Now what we dream about has changed. The biggest surprise for me was how the feeling of homesickness changed with new impressions, acquaintances, and the lights on the streets. Everyone was freed from captivity in Luhansk and are unlikely to return" in what he commented about for his project for the portal “Bird in flight”. He makes photozins, which are small hand-made magazines and brochures with the pictures of the artists with his own photos and photos of his friends ("Not the promised land", "Industry" and others).
