Museum of History and Culture of the City of Luhansk

The building, which now houses the Museum of History and Culture of Luhansk, was built in the 1880s. The architect of the building is unknown, but it is known that the house was built for the City Chairman Vladimir Verbovsky. Until 1919 the building served as premises for the City Council and the administration. The first floor of the building, the city government leased to a store and printing office, the second floor housed courtrooms. The facade of the building has survived in its authentic form with the exception of the fire tower on the roof. The interior has been changed several times. In the 1920s the building was occupied by a construction college, which Mikhail Matusovskiy graduated from. After the 2nd World War war the building was given to the local history museum. The museum was founded in 1980 as Museum Clement Voroshilov. The collection consisted of about 36 thousand items that belonged to the Voroshilov family. On December 14, 1990, the museum of the Voroshilov family was converted into the Museum of History and Arts of Luhansk. Now the museum's collection includes more than 50 thousand items.
