Human Rights Initiative in support of Olaolu Femi

The case of a student from Nigeria Olaolu Femi for one more time put up the question of the everyday racism and corrupted judges in Ukraine and in Luhansk in particular. Femi was groundless condemned in the attempt of killing four youngsters. To defend Femi human rights activists from Luhansk, Kyiv, Crimea joined their efforts. In 2014 Olaolu Femi got suspended the sentence. "Of course, this is everyday racism. We [PRAVO. Berlin Group for Human Rights in Ukraine] have joined Kyiv, Luhansk and the Crimean human rights defenders who took up this case. It was Europe's first case when a victim of a racist attack was put on trial on trumped-up charges. I then went to Luhansk, and attended the court hearing. It was a real farce. The mother of one of those who beat up Femi worked for the Luhansk police;she sat behind her son and told me how to respond in court. It was like I was in the Stone Age," - says human rights activist from Berlin, Alexandra Bienert
