Famous Ukrainian writer Yuriy Pokalchuk visited Luhansk - he was the first among famous contemporary writers who did that. During his visit literary readings with the autograph-session. The screening od the film "At the Special Focus Zone" about the problems of the youth in penal colony took place. The film was made after Pokalchuk script. "Ukrainian writers have not come to Luhansk. The notion that Luhanks is fully Russian speaking city - that's true - where nobody is interested in Ukrainian culture - that is not true. There was huge interest. We decided to bring a Ukrainian writer to Luhansk at our own risk. We decided to bring Yuriy Pokalchuk. Later he told us that he was going to Luhansk with some kind of worry, but was surprised by what was going in Luhansk's cultural life as well as the number of poeople interested in his books and himself. He was shocked that in other Ukrainian regions people do not know nothing about Luhansk, and are sure that there were only criminals, lowbrows, ex-prisoners. Pokalchuk witnesses how diverse cultural life in the city has been. His performans has been to a full house, he sold many books. He left Luhansk exited. Later he remembered that visit, cooperated with us and supported us. We are grateful. Pokalchuk also have said that Luhansk is like an island isolated in Ukraine and something has to be done with this situation, the blackade has to be broken away", - recollects Kostyantyn Skorkin.
