Luhansk Oblast Philharmonic Hall

The philharmonic hall was founded during World War II, officially – in 1943. Its first chief was a Ukrainian bandura player named Viktor Djurdjiy. He founded a Capella of bandura players that went on tour in the region during the war. The 1st concert of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Philharmonic Hall took place in 1945. In 1985 an organ was placed in the hall, constructed by a German company “Aleksander Schuke”. The following music collectives were based in the philharmonic hall: Symphony Orchestra, Kyiv Rus Ensemble, and Legenda Ensemble. In the XXI century the philharmonic had two halls: a main hall (503 places) and smaller one (70 places). In 2015 the Philharmonic Hall was officially evacuated to Severodonetsk, now the administrative centre of Luhansk oblast. At the same time the renamed philharmonic hall is still working in Luhansk, its chief and many of the musicians stayed in Luhansk. In the 2014 – 2015 season the philharmonic hall closed the season with a concert for the 175 anniversary of Peter Tchaikovsky’s birth.
