Polovets Stone Statues Park
The official name of the park is Park-Museum of Anthropomorphosis Statues and Polovets Stone Statues. It is located on the territory of Luhansk National University. The collection consists of the anthropomorphosis statues of the Catacomb culture of XXV – XX century B.C. and the monuments of sacred Polovets art of XI-ХІІІ century A.D. «We used to spend time there with STAN members quite often, listened to some poetry, drank something», - recollects an artist Anastasiya Medyanyk. «This park’s history is quite sad. These monuments have had to stay on the hills in the steppe, on burial mounds […] Unfortunately, in the 70s of the XX century the university’s administration decided to move the statues here. Taking into account the fact that these statues are the graveside constructions, it is not good that all these stone idols are gathered near the university […] Better for these statues to stay in the steppes», - tells archaeologist and civic activist Oleksiy Brytiuk in a video for the project «Ukraine Speaking».
